   The Funeral

   Three sisters stand graveside. Eldest Iris hasn't spoken to middle sister Wren in seven years. Youngest sister Juno is the only one crying.

   The lawyer reads the will. 'And the leadership of the coven goes to —' a torn-out page.

   The sisters open every cabinet in the farmhouse looking for the missing page. They argue about who deserves it.

   Juno finds the page in her grandmother's apron pocket. She doesn't show her sisters.

   Wren tends the dying herbs. They respond to her hands. She has not done magic in three years.

   A plant she has never seen before grows from her grandmother's grave: a black orchid with white veins.

   The local coven — eleven witches across three generations — gather in the kitchen. They want the new leader named tonight.

   Eldest sister Iris attempts a binding spell to make her sisters defer. The spell rebounds. The kitchen catches fire.
